What’s New in KSI 2025

Using Colored Inversion for Seismic Spectral Blueing

Seismic Spectral Blueing is a technique used to enhance the resolution of seismic data. It involves shaping the spectra of seismic data to align with the Earth’s reflectivity, which typically exhibits a ‘blue’ characteristic where higher frequencies correspond to higher amplitudes.

Seismic Spectral Blueing extends the resolution of seismic data by compensating for the loss of high frequencies during standard seismic data processing, where amplitudes are often whitened, reducing resolution. By applying Seismic Spectral Blueing, the vertical resolution of seismic reflection data is increased, which is crucial for identifying thin subsurface layers or structures.

The process involves adjusting the frequency spectrum of seismic data to match the spectral characteristics of the Earth’s reflectivity. This is done by boosting the high-frequency components relative to the lower frequencies, aiming to restore or enhance the natural ‘blue’ spectrum of seismic reflections, where amplitude increases with frequency.

The process is started in the Colored Inversion module by selecting the ‘Blueing’ button once the usual selection of logs, T-D charts and amplitude selection has taken place.blueing

In the Logs and Seismic tab, the six log panels on display will be the same but, for example, the P-Impedance RC log where in Colored Inversion mode was displaying the Impedance, it is now displaying the reflectivity taken from the converted impedance.

Once matched the wave can be tested on the seismic display in the Log and Seismic tab, comparing the Input Seismic to the Inverted wavelet. You would expect to see a higher resolution on the ‘Blued’ Inversion panel.

The blued seismic are displayed in the Log and Seismic tab, which can be compared the Input Seismic.  A higher resolution on the ‘Blued’ Inversion panel should be seen. The spectral blueing can also be applied S-wave reflectivity, density reflectivity and EEI reflectivity by switching “Inversion Type”.

Using Kingdom Static Well Subsets in Inversion

From Kingdom 2024 HF3 KSI supports Static Well Subsets.  This provides easy use of Kingdom projects with very large number of Wells.

Simply construct the Static Well Subsets in Kingdom and on entry into whichever Inversion process selected the new dialog will pop up allowing you to select which Static Well Subsets you wish to use in the project.well subset dialogue

From Kingdom 2025 this feature is available as an option to switch off and on via the Tools -> Options.

What’s New in VelPAK 2025

Profile Multi-realisation

A new feature of the profile module is the ability to run and display multi-realisations on chosen events. This uses the grids generated from a workflow/wizard multi-realisation where any number of grids have been generated. These grids have the relevant information extracted along the chosen events and displayed as multiple event surfaces within the profile.

P10, P50 and P90 values are displayed in different colours – red, blue and green respectively. These values can be displayed individually if required.

Zooming in to the event, tool tips are displayed about the profiles.

If wells are displayed on the profile, you can see where the data has been tied to the wells the multi-realisations convene. It is only where there are no wells to tie to that the multi-realisations show signs of divergence.

There is also the option to display the data from the Analyse module allowing you to filter data if you are only interested in volumes larger than XYZ, for example. Also linking this to the Analyse module – each model has a spill point associated with it and this can be displayed by selecting the Analyse option on the profile module.
