EAGE Workshop on Velocities: Reducing Uncertainties in Depths

Equipoise Software was in attendance at the “EAGE Workshop on Velocities: Reducing Uncertainties in Depths” in Kuala Lumpur  in April, where Glyn Pugh, Director of Geoscience at our sister company ERCe (ERCE) was invited to be a keynote speaker.  This workshop focused on all aspects of reducing uncertainties from seismic imaging, velocity model building, pore pressure prediction, depth conversion and drilling in velocities. It was great to meet up again with Dr Al Chalabi (PetroTech) who Equipoise Software have had a relationship with for many years developing his theories and techniques into functioning modules within Velit. Dr Al Chalabi was giving a keynote speech and giving a pre-workshop presentation on ‘Seismic Velocities and Depth Conversion’.

Our sales team took the opportunity to run some extra workshops to demonstrate risk reduction and kuala lumpuruncertainty available within the Velit software using the optimise routines and specifically the new and enhanced data loading wizard and the depth conversion wizard – allowing the user to depth convert layer by layer quickly and efficiently using a variety of standard depth conversion methods building detailed velocity models for domain conversion, risk reduction and reservoir characterisation.   The Wizard provides easy, step by step instructions for each available depth conversion method, with the ability to fine tune your selected parameters and review data displays as you step through each option. The Wizard provides a simple to use entry point to surface grid depth conversion, with the most frequently used techniques incorporated as requested by our customers.  For depth conversion you can use formation tops and grid time pairs, velocity log curves and seismic velocities.

This week the team is in Dubai giving further demonstrations and leading workshops for Velit and VelPAK and our Inversion packages. Contact us for more information!
